This year is my 10th serving as president and CEO of Buckner International, a global nonprofit headquartered in Dallas, Texas. In all my years of organizational leadership, I've never quite seen a year like 2020. It is a year where leaders are having to make strategic decisions about messaging, specifically public statements regarding this year's events, such as COVID-19 and racism.
As a nonprofit, we serve vulnerable populations, so what affects these populations, affects us. I wanted to share my thoughts regarding nonprofits and public statements and believe there are two key factors that must be included in official messages put out by organizations.
