Buckner International Joins the Baptist World Alliance

I am pleased to announce that Buckner International has joined the Baptist World Alliance. During the Annual Meeting of BWA held in Lagos, Nigeria, Buckner International was voted in as a member of this global network of Baptists.

A delegation from Buckner International including Yale Kim, Sr. Director of Church Engagement, Sergio Ramos, Church Engagement Officer, Dickson Masindano, Executive Director of Buckner Kenya NGO, Rose Wasike, Assistant Director, Buckner Kenya NGO, and Dr. Amy Curtis, Sr. Director of Counseling at Buckner Children and Family Services represented Buckner at this annual meeting in Lagos. Dickson Masindano and Dr. Amy Curtis presented a session on humanitarian aid at this event.

The Baptist World Alliance, under the leadership of Dr. Elijah Brown, Executive Secretary and CEO, is a network of 51 million Baptists in 134 countries organized into 266 conventions across the globe. BWA focuses on strengthening local churches, leading in missions and evangelism, responding with aid, relief and community development, defending religious freedom, and advancing theological education and leadership.

This relationship is significant for the Buckner mission: “To follow the example of Jesus by serving vulnerable children, families, and seniors.” The BWA network puts Buckner much closer to children and families who need help across the globe and provides new opportunities through BWA partners to serve. The convention we are affiliated with in Texas, the Baptist General Convention of Texas, comprised of 5,300 Baptist churches and 23 institutional ministries, and 2.2 million members, under the leadership of Dr. Julio Guarneri, is a long-time member of the BWA. BWA partners serve across North America, Latin America, Africa, Europe, and the Asia Pacific Region. The opportunity for global impact for the Kingdom of God has never been more possible than through these connections.

I have the honor of serving as one of two vice presidents of the BWA representing and engaging Baptists in the USA Region, along with Dr. Samuel C. Tolbert Jr., president of the National Baptist Convention of America International Inc. in Lake Charles, Louisiana. You may want to consider leading your Baptist church or ministry to join the BWA and plan to attend the 2025 Congress meeting in Brisbane, Australia. This meeting is the closest experience of what heaven might be like with brothers and sisters from every tribe, nation, and tongue experiencing worship, fellowship, and ministry together. We can do more together than we could alone.
